Brass plate is a widely used leaded brass with good mechanical properties and excellent machinability. It can withstand both cold and hot pressure processing, making it suitable for various structural parts in machining and stamping, such as gaskets and bushings. Tin brass plate offers high corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties, with excellent pressure processability in both cold and hot states. It is used for corrosion-resistant parts on ships and components and conduits in contact with media like steam and oil.
Characteristics
Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Simple brass is a binary alloy of copper and zinc, known as simple brass or common brass. Varying the zinc content in brass alters its mechanical properties. Higher zinc content in brass increases its strength but slightly reduces plasticity. Industrially used brass contains no more than 45% zinc, as higher zinc content leads to brittleness and deteriorates alloy performance. To enhance specific properties, other alloying elements are added to binary brass, resulting in special brass. Common alloying elements include silicon, aluminum, tin, lead, manganese, iron, and nickel. Adding aluminum to brass improves yield strength and corrosion resistance while slightly reducing plasticity. Brass with less than 4% aluminum exhibits good comprehensive properties in processing and casting. Adding 1% tin to brass significantly enhances its resistance to seawater and marine atmospheric corrosion, hence the term "naval brass." Tin also improves the machinability of brass. The primary purpose of adding lead to brass is to enhance machinability and wear resistance, with little effect on strength. Manganese brass offers good mechanical properties, thermal stability, and corrosion resistance. Adding aluminum to manganese brass further improves its properties, resulting in castings with a smooth surface. Brass can be categorized into cast and pressure-processed products.
H62 brass plate is primarily an alloy of copper and zinc with a wide range of applications. Its properties depend on the ratio of copper to zinc. H62 brass plate with over 63% copper can be cold-worked, annealed, and is ductile. Alloys with less copper and more zinc require hot working and exhibit higher strength.
